LaBaff, 35, of Canton with felony counts of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing Monday following an investigation into a complaint filed with troopers on Nov. 21 from the town of Potsdam. Village police charged Aaron M. Clary, 36, of 4320 state Route 310, Norfolk, with a felony count of driving while intoxicated and ticketed him for speeding at 2:23 a.m. Saturday following a traffic stop on Water Street. Police said Mr. Clary refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Canton-based state police charged Matthew K. Baise, 42, of Masssena with petit larceny Monday afternoon stemming from an incident that took place Nov. 27 in the town of Potsdam. The arrest was made at 220 Barnhart Road.

A handful of individuals were arrested in the pre-dawn hours Wednesday stemming from an investigation into a gang-related New York City drug ring with ties to the Massena area. Village police, St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies and officers from federal agencies gathered people from Massena and Norfolk in what started as a lengthy investigation into the dealing of cocaine and heroin in Massena.

A yearlong investigation into a gang-related New York City drug ring with ties to the Massena area led to six arrests Wednesday in what police have called “Operation Believe it or Not.” Between about 5 and 7:30 a.m., village police, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies, state police and officers from Homeland Security Investigations - all members of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force - arrested members of two rival Bronx-based gangs, 18 Park and Young Gunnaz, also known as the YGz, for the distribution of cocaine and heroin, including the arrest of 18 Park gang leader Jonathan Rodriguez, 27, Massena Village Police Chief Mark E. LaBrake said.

St. Lawrence County to open 42 miles of new multi-purpose trails

St. Lawrence County Officials and the County Trails Advisory Board are looking to open 42 miles of multi-purpose trail in the northeastern portion of the county, according to a press release from County Attorney Stephen D. Button. Mr. Button said the trails will require the towns covered by the Flatlands Unit Management Plan, which include Madrid, Brasher, Stockholm and Hopkinton and the County to pass local laws opening the various roads necessary for operation.

A state appellate court has reversed the conviction of a former Norfolk man who was sentenced to prison in April 2014 for felonies related to the 2013 rape of a 15-year-old girl. Wednesday's ruling by the state Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department cites numerous prejudicial remarks made by District Attorney Mary E. Rain during her closing arguments in the trial of Patrick R. Wright.

It is charged that on Aug. 9, on Pine Street in the village of Potsdam Mr. Johnson operated a 2005 Chevrolet motor vehicle while intoxicated. THe charge was elevated to a felony because Mr. Martin was previosly convicted of a misdemeanor count of DWI on July 29, 2008 in Bombay Town Court.

Norfolk-area man faces year in county jail as part of plea bargain deal

A Norfolk-area man will be sentenced to serve one year in the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts in a plea bargain agreement with the St. Lawrence County District Attorney's Office. Justin L. Lafleur, 28, has been held at the county jail with bail at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond since being charged Aug. 11 with four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

New contract switches St. Lawrence County sheriffa s deputies to 12-hour shifts

Members of St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department road patrol have agreed to work 12-hour shifts under a new three-year contract that also provides slight raises. The new contract was approved by both the St. Lawrence County Legislature and the St. Lawrence County Deputies Association Inc. It replaces a former five-year contract that expired Dec. 31, 2014.
