Norfolk Town Board members agreed this week they could not afford the 5 percent increase requested for their annual contract with the Potsdam Humane Society. They agreed instead they could pay only accept a 0.73 percent increase - the state's property tax cap limit for 2016, a measure they said could result in a limit on the number of animals that will be accepted at the shelter.

Police make four arrests, seize 110 grams of cocaine on Cedar Street in Norfolk

Four men, including two from the Bronx, were arrested on drug charges Wednesday evening following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the town of Norfolk that resulted in the seizure of cocaine with a street value in the $7,000 range, police said. Members of the Massena Police Department, Border Enforcement Task Force, St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, state police and U.S. Border Patrol executed an arrest warrant Wednesday at 27 Cedar St. The warrant was issued out of the Southern District of New York for Ricardo Garcia, 24, on federal drug charges.

NORFOLK – Two new teachers at Norwood-Norfolk Central School were introduced to the school board this month and were even offered an opportunity to sample some freshly baked cookies. Natalie M. Lucas and Amanda R. Ives have joined the Flyer's staff this year and with the first few days of the new school year behind them, they are both excited to see what else is in store for them.

NORFOLK – Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Route 56, near West Hatfield Street, in the town of Norfolk. Massena-based state police said the driver and passenger in one vehicle were injured after their vehicle was rearended on state Route 56. The driver of the vehicle was treated for nose injuries and a male passenger complained of breathing difficulties.

Green, 39, of Winthrop with driving while intoxicated and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle on a public highway and ticketed her for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to keep right following a traffic stop on state Route 420 in the town of Norfolk. Troopers said they had received a report that a vehicle had struck guide rails and then continued to travel northbound on Route 420 at 9:26 p.m. Sunday.

Village police picked up Tyler A. Valdez, 18, of 2091 Plumbrook Road, Norfolk, on a bench warrant at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Lawrence County Probation Department's satellite office on Harrowgate Commons. The warrant, signed by Acting Massena Village Justice Gerald P. Sharlow, alleged Mr. Valdez had violated the conditions of his probationary sentence from May 28 after he pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree attempted criminal possession of stolen property count.
